劉言史，洛陽（今屬河南）人，或謂邯鄲（今屬河北）人。與孟郊友善。王武俊為恒冀邯團練觀察使時對他頗為賞識，曾舉薦其為棗強縣令，他辭疾不就。世重之，仍稱"劉棗強"。后李夷簡節度漢南時辟為司功椽。工詩，風格近李賀。皮日休撰《劉棗強碑》云："所有歌詩千首，其莢麗恢贍，自賀外，世莫得比。"《全唐詩》錄其詩1卷?；蛘`為王言史。

裛露凝氛紫艷新，千般婉娜不勝春。

年年此樹花開日，出盡丹陽郭里人。

柔枝濕艷亞朱欄，暫作庭芳便欲殘。

深藏數片將歸去，紅縷金針繡取看。

The charming, fresh and violet florets, bathed in dew and enveloped in vapour,

Are too tender and slender to be graced by vernal splendour.

Annually on the day of their efflorescence,

All the inhabitants in the suburb of Danyang wend out to appreciate her pulchritudinous appearance.

Beside the scarlet banister is tender, moist and charming sprays.

In the courtyard, a transient fragrant floret will soon fall into decay.

Bound for my domicile with several cherished petals,

And with golden needle and red thread I embroider after her pattern in a mimic way.
